- GFO - Granular Ferric Oxide
GFO or Phosban is used to remove phosphates (po4) from the water and aquarium.
Removing PO4 with GFO will help control algae growth and hair algae. Grannual Ferric Oxide should alway be used in a reactor to keep the media tumbling. Tumbling the GFO will make sure that it will not clump up, however be sure not to tumble GFO too much to cause media fines. GFO generally needs to be tumbled just enough so that its barely in motion to prevent clumping.
