Saltwater aquariums rely on having a good mix of salt and the correct salinity in the aquarium.  We generally recommend using a refractometer when testing your specific gravity, as they are the most accurate.  When running a reef tank full of live corals keeping your salinity around 1.025-1.026 is the most ideal as this will help maintain your alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium.
